Current Research:
My students and I are working
on several problems in cloud physics, with particular emphasis on the interactions
between clouds and their environments. These interactions are important because
they determine cloud evolution, the climatic effects associated with precipitation
and cloud cover, and the role of clouds in redistributing heat, moisture, and
pollutants within the atmosphere. Our work has focused on numerical models of
the turbulent flows through clouds and on the comparison of our model results
with data from field experiments. We are currently conducting observational
and theoretical studies of layer cloud breakup, thunderstorm electrification,
and the role of clouds in transporting heat, moisture, and contaminants through
the atmosphere.
