4. Future

The PNSN will continue to expand and densify the network of strong motion seismographs in the Pacific Northwest. The emphasis for 2002 will be the placement of sensors in western Oregon.

For FY2002 we plan to install 4 CREST stations (3 on the coast of Oregon and 1 in southwest Washington), 6 ANSS stations in Oregon, and 2 stations in the Puget Sound area. An additional broadband/ strong motion station will be placed on the south flank of Mt Hood.

The ANSS stations will utilize new hardware, the CMG-5TD strong motion seismograph system manufactured by Guralp. CREST stations will continue to use Reftek recording systems with Guralp broadband sensors and Kinemetrics strong motion sensors. Seismographs purchased by the state of Oregon will likely be the Kinemetrics K2.

We plan on using TCP/IP as our primary method of data telemetry and will employ radio hops as needed.

The PNSN is alway searching for appropriate sites for seismographs in the Pacific Northwest.
