Space Plasma Physics Modelling Page

Members of the Earth Space Environment Modeling Group at the University of Washington use computer simulation techniques to model a variety of the enegertic particle/plasma environment around the Earth. This harsh radiaiton environment is controlled by the solar wind conditions. The modeling uses both particle and fluid approaches in conjunction with in situ spacecraft observations to investigate how the plasma environment around the Earth changes, including loss of the topside atmosphere under distrubed solar wind conditions.

	Solar wind is deflected from the Earth's magnetic field and in so doing deposits energy into the top side atmosphere or ionsophere. These particle can be tracked to investigate Ionospheric Outflow and the energization of these particles in space.
