Climate and paleoclimate research at the University of Washington is a multi-disciplinary enterprise, involving various departments organized under the Program on Climate Change Within ESS, faculty studying climate are closely affiliatied with this Program and with the Quaternary Research Center.

Major research areas include climate dynamics especially in the polar regions, development of paleoclimate records using lake, glacial, and eolian sediments, the interaction of climate and landscape evolution, and the distribution of ice on land in the past.
