Exploration Seminar to Greenland: 12 August - 2 September 2008
August 13 - 15: Copenhagen, Denmark
August 15 - 23: around Ilulissat and Qeqertarsuaq, Greenland
August 24 - 26: on coastal ferry
August 26-27: Nuuk, Greenland
August 28-29: Kangerlussuaq, Greenland
August 30 - September 2: Copenhagen, Denmark
August 12: group airfare reservation: Depart Seattle at 6:45 pm on SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) 938. Meet at SEA-TAC airport at least 3 hours before the flight.
August 13-14: Arrive in Copenhagen August 13 at 1:15 pm. Accommodation at Danhostel Copenhagen Downtown, Vandkunsten 5, phone: 45- 7023 2110.
August 15: Depart Copenhagen for Kangerlussuaq, Greenland at 9:15 am, and arrive at 9:45 am (there is a 4 hour time difference). Connect from Kangerlussuaq to Ilulissat on Air Greenland, depart 2:45 and arrive 3:10. Accomodation at Ilulissat Youth Hostel, phone: 299- 94 33 77.
August 16-18: weather-permitting: Depart by boat at 7:00 am for Eqi Ice Camp. Explore area and stay two nights at permanent hut camp.
August 19: Ilulissat, accommodation at Ilulissat Youth Hostel.
August 20-22: Travel to Qeqertarsuaq by ferry, depart 7:00 am. Accommodation for two nights at the Arctic Research Station (station manager: 299-921 383). Depart Qeqertarsuaq in the late afternoon on August 22 to return to Ilulissat.
August 22-23: Accommodation at Ilulissat Youth Hostel
August 24: Board Arctic Umiaq Line ferry from Ilulissat to Nuuk, departs at 5:00 pm.
August 26-27: Arrive in Nuuk at 6:30 am. Accommodation at Nuuk Sporthal. Messages can be left at Nuuk Seamans Home, phone: 299- 32 10 29.
August 28-29: Fly from Nuuk to Kangerlussuaq on Air Greenland, depart 7:00 am and arrive 7:55 am. Accommodation at Kangerlussuaq Hostel, contact phone: 299- 841 098.
August 29: Depart Kangerlussuaq for Copenhagen at 9:40 pm and fly overnight.
August 30-September 2: Arrive in Copenhagen at 6:30 am. Accomodation at Danhostel Copenhagen Downtown, phone: 45- 7023 2110. Visit Copenhagen. Group reservation: SAS flight 937, depart from Copenhagen at 3:50 pm, arrive back in Seattle at 4:50 pm (on September 2).
